This email provides a brief update about WTMC club trips:

  • AGM and electing the new Committee on 6 April.

We are also looking for a couple of volunteers to check club gear for damage and restock first aid kits.

AGM and electing the new Committee

The WTMC Annual General Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 6 April 2022, 7-8.30pm, both in person and online.

  • There are still a few Committee and non-Committee roles to fill.
  • For more information about the role or to put your hand up, please contact our Secretary Aimee.
  • To find out who has been nominated, vacant positions and the agenda for the AGM please check the Newsletter article on the WTMC website.
  • The Annual Report and the Financial Statements for the last year are also available.

Alpine training 2022

A number of courses are available this season to build alpine capability and support club members to get into mountaineering.

  • Alpine leadership (10-12 June): Keen to start leading alpine trips for the club? This weekend course will focus on alpine risks identification and management. Find out more through the sign-up link on the trip schedule.
  • Snowcraft (28-31 July): 3-day introduction to mountaineering to learn beginners alpine skills, including use of crampons and ice axe. Gain the skills to go on easy alpine trips (Alp1) with WTMC. More information is available on the Snowcraft page.
  • Avalanche awareness (August TBC): WTMC is exploring options to contract a provider for an avalanche awareness course. You can register your interest online.

Damaged/used club gear – What to do?

Accidents happen – The committee has recently been notified of broken fly poles not being reported and first aid kits being used but not topped up. Please make sure people going on trips are aware of the following:

A club first aid kit weighs about 800g!

Ever wondered what you are actually carrying? All kits contain:

  • First aid booklet
  • Bandages and dressings in various sizes
  • Panadol
  • Saline / Eye drops
  • Strapping tape – e.g. for sprained ankles
  • Tweezers
  • Survival blanket
  • Safety pins
  • Trauma scissors – to cut clothing
  • Latex gloves
  • CPR mask
  • Gladwrap – to protect burns
