Keep Paua Hut Clean – Leave the Soap at Home
Paua Hut is another one of our great assets. It’s pretty easy to find, just 30 minutes drive from Wellington in Orongorongos. Unfortunately, rats have also found the hut thanks to the enticing smell of soap left behind. There’s plenty of fat in soap to keep rats happy and overtaking our hut. So be sure to take your soap home the next time you stay at Paua or any hut for that matter. If you haven’t visited Paua Hut lately, it’s a great place for a Friday night get-away when you can’t be bothered with a roadend fly camp. There plenty of options for trips from Paua Hut, like last year’s Guy Fawke’s weekend extravaganza. The hut is free to members and a small fee for non-members, but does require booking – learn more on our website.
LINZ Seeking feedback on topographic map and data strategy
Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) is currently seeking feedback on a draft strategy for the way it provides its topographic maps and data. They are specifically inviting comments from tramping and alpine club members on this strategy, as well as the broader public. Consultation on the draft strategy will close at 5pm on 26 May 2014. Federated Mountain Clubs (FMC) Young Adults Scholarship
Following a three year trial period, the FMC youth scholarships have been revamped and are back for 2014. Because of low demand, there are no skills scholarships on offer this year; instead the money has been put back into the pool to expand the number of expedition awards on offer. FMC is also expanded eligibility to individual supporters.
