About the trip schedule

  • If you are new to the club, we recommend an Easy (E) or Easy-Medium (EM) for your first trip. Trips with an asterix (*) are particularly suitable for beginners/new members e.g. relatively short days, max 400m elevation gain and/or well formed tracks.

Planning for the 2024 Alpine Season
We are organising an alpine trip planning evening on 15 May, from 5.30-7pm, at the Club’s room.
Come along with your ideas and help put together an epic list of mountaineering trips for this winter.

AGM and Committee vacancies

  • Tramp(EM) Tararua FP, Field Hut from Otaki Forks. map (Margaret Craigie/Jeanna Gordon), signup closes: 28 Feb 2024. A classic Tararua tramp for those new to overnight tramping. Stay in the historic Field Hut and if the weather is good take a side trip to Table Top for wonderful views. On Sunday there is time for a refreshing swim at Otaki Forks. Sign up online Tags
  • Tramp / Tenting(M) Tararua FP, Island Forks in the Stream from Waitohu Valley Road. (Daniel Madley), signup closes: 28 Feb 2024. Leaving Saturday morning for Otaki, the walk starts at the Waitohu Quarry, follow the Waitohu Stream and Mick Track to Mick (pt877). A bushbash follows in a southeasterly curve along the ridgeline for a little over a kilometre before turning northwest towards pt872. Continue to follow the ridge down to pt620 and Island Forks Hut. The ‘hut’ is a 2 person biv so we will be tenting. Return the same way. Sign up online

Follow the coast on a wide flat gravel road to the lower Pencarrow lighthouse at the Wellington harbour entrance. Walking further around the coast to Fitzroy Bay, turn left onto the shores of Lake Kohangapiripiri. A number of options to explore the area including walking to the high point of the Cameron Ridge Track to view Lake Kohangatera and the Gollans Wetland. 6-7 hrs walking Sign up online

On Saturday, head along to Jumbo, Angle Knob, and the Shingle Slip Plane Wreck, then descend to Jac’s Flat Biv in the Waiohine River. Give back to the community and help save our native birds/lizards/invertebrates by doing mouse baiting work at Zealandia. Travel off track baiting Zealandia’s transect lines – this is a great chance to explore corners of the valley never seen by visitors!  Participants must be comfortable tramping off track on steep, uneven and slippery terrain. After a hard day’s work scrambling through the bush, maybe cap off the day with a drink at the pub. Day walk with a back up Rainday of 16 June Max group size of 15. Sign up online
