He established his business First Light Guiding in Wanaka to provide a service that incorporates mindfulness\, environmental care and self-development with what is often seen as an egocentric pursuit. \nHe delves into the why of adventure and speaks about what excites him the most about his career. \nHis creative spirit is also abundant in his photography and videography work\, shooting on the fly in often extreme and exposed places. \nStef Sifandos is an author\, international speaker and well-respected mentor and trainer to some of Australia’s top professional sporting teams\, individual athletes\, world champion fighters\, and elite special forces soldiers. He combines the best of eastern and western methodologies and philosophies into his programs. \nHe holds degrees in: Behavioural Science and Philosophy; a Master degree in Environmental Science and Commerce\, and has been pivotal in the creation of the ‘Spirit of the Mountains’ mountaineering and self-development retreat with First Light Guiding.  He is also qualified in the areas of Neuro-Linguistic Programming\, Hypnosis\, Reiki\, physical and psychological conditioning and performance coaching. \nThis evenings presentation focuses on the power of nature and adventure on our mental health and will include photos and footage from the mountains of the Southern Alps\, Peru\, Patagonia and Nepal.

DESCRIPTION:That’s right\, it’s the not-quite-annual Great WTMC Bake-off! \nBake your best tramping snack and enter the Great WTMC Bake-off and you might just win a prize. Or show up to sample an incredible selection of cakes\, biscuits\, muesli bars and the iconic Tararua Biscuit. \nThere will be prizes for the People’s Choice award and guest judges will identify winners in specific categories. In addition\, there will be a special foodie quiz with prizes. \nThe not-so-official rules: \n\nIt must be baked.\nYou must bake it (you can get help from a friend\, but that friend cannot be New World or the Pandora Bakery\, for example).\nIt could be something you bake at home or on a tramp (but bring the already baked version to club).\nAim to bring 20-40 bite-size pieces so that plenty of people can have a taste.\nBe creative\, for example you might want to spread melted chocolate on your Tararua biscuit.\nIt’s totally acceptable and highly encouraged to bring baking that has won in previous years such as the lime cheesecake.\n\nBring your baking to club by 7:15 so it can be entered in the judging.

DESCRIPTION:Hilary Low will talk with us about her most recent book\, Pay Dirt: The Westland Goldfields\, from the diary of William Smart (2016)\, tells the story of how English settler William Smart left Christchurch in 1862 to prospect for gold in the uncharted wilderness of the West Coast. \nWhile researching her first book\, Hilary discovered the early Canterbury settler\, William Smart\, and his story. In 1863 he too crossed to the West Coast\, and later produced a brilliant written and illustrated account of his life there before the gold rushes\, his search for a gold field and his close association with local Māori. Trampers will appreciate William’s colourful descriptions of long distance treks with his Māori friends. From them he learned their ways of bush travel and survival on the Coast. \nHilary’s first book\, Pushing his Luck: Report of the Expedition and Death of Henry Whitcombe by Jakob Lauper (2010)\, was about Whitcombe and Lauper’s harrowing journey across the Southern Alps to the West Coast in 1863.
