    Lodge Update

    Our Maunga

    May 2021

The mountain has had more sprinklings of snow indicating that temperatures up there are cooling. RAL, the lift operator, is flat out making snow in the Happy Valley beginner’s area which will be open from Queens Birthday weekend. The lodge Summer Rates apply over Queens Birthday, however, we can only open if we have a capable lodge leader. Our Winter Rates will apply from July 2.

We are moving forward with winter bookings. To try and please everyone we are attempting to cater for both those who need to plan well ahead, and for those who are not able to decide when to make bookings till nearer the time. Bookings are filling. All winter spaces will be available for booking by July 1.

For more information on how this works go to the lodge bookings page. Even if you are not making a booking if you want to keep up to date with how things are, go to that page as this is the page with up-to-date booking information. Go to: Wellington Tramping and Mountaineering Club website, Facilities, Ruapehu Lodge, Lodge Bookings.

For booking the lodge, club members membership status is now frozen, meaning that people can join the club during winter but the non-member rates and priority status for the lodge will remain until the end of October. So please do not hassle our booking team with excuses.

Keep the following dates in mind or, better still, in your calendar:

    • Friday 9 July to departure Sunday 25th July – School Holidays
    • Sunday 8 August to departure Friday 13th August – Ski Week 1

The weeks, but not the weekends between these dates are already fully booked.

    • Sunday 13 September to departure Friday 17 September – Ski Week 2
    • Friday 1 October to Sunday 17th October – School Holidays.

We now have a Lodge Promotions officer and our Lodge Secretary is returning so what is left is still a helper for the bookings team. And there is always room on the Lodge Sub-committee for those who feel that they can contribute to the running of the lodge.

By the time you read this there will have been helpers at the lodge cleaning and restocking supplies to make the place spick and span for the winter season. And a great season it is going to be
