The New Zealand Mountain Film Festival is coming to Wellington on Thursday 27 October 2016 sponsored by WTMC and the Tararua Tramping Club.
It’s a NZ made festival that started in 2002 and is internationally recognised as one of the world’s premier mountain film festival events. It’s NZ’s original mountain film festival with its own international adventure film maker’s competition, as well as a highly regarded NZ made division. This night is part of the National tour of the festival bringing the best of the films either made in NZ or films made by New Zealanders. The selection of films include mountain biking the Cucasus Moutains in the former Soviet Republic of Georgia, climbing the Andes Mountains, mountain biking White Island, creating the Old Ghost Road, and cycling 16000km through Eurasia.
Money raised after covering the cost of the venue and films will be donated back to WTMC and TTC.

A group of mountain bikers head into the Cucasus Mountains in the former Soviet Republic of Georgia. Terrifying lightning storms, raging-river crossings, snow- covered glacial pass traverses, mind-melting descents, constant fights with vicious dogs and tense encounters with over-zealous border-patrol guards all feature.

From the Film Makers: Our good friend and absolute champion of a person, Kelly “McGazza” McGarry, passed away recently, before he could see this film completed. We shot this film on White Island. Kelly was an inspiration to so many. He easily takes the prize for being the happiest, most stoked and genuine athlete we have ever filmed with.
Muscle and Dreams – Creating the Old Ghost Road, NZ, 28 mins, Directed by Dave Kwant.
Follows the creation of NZ’s longest continuous single track mountain bike trail. Connecting two ends of a long forgotten miners road the project took over 10 years to complete. A story about classic Kiwi grit and ingenuity.
Five Square Meals: A Bicycle Odyssey, NZ, 47 mins, Directed by Anna Gray Yeoman.
With a free year and looking for an adventure, Ollie and Anna Yeoman leave their Dunedin home and set off to explore Eurasia by bike. Increasingly seeking out the smallest, wildest roads, they detour their way across Asia, Europe and the Middle East, exploring 16000km of the continent’s most interesting and mountainous corners. The road brings at times fun, hardship, heartbreak and gratitude, and always, adventure.
