Ruapehu Rumblings – September 2016

Huge news from Ruapehu Alpine Lifts – Life Passes have gone on sale! Pay $4000 to ski for nothing forever. Check it out at http://www.mtruapehu.com/winter/2016-life-pass/ until 10 October.

gondolaAnd that’s because RAL are planning on spending 100 MILLION DOLLARS on new lifts and facilities for us. Their big announcement – on top of the new chairlifts to replace the waterfall, knoll ridge and valley T bars, and a magic carpet to replace the happy valley chair – is a gondola to take us to 2000m altitude near delta corner that is planned for a 2018 opening.  Check out this NZ Herald article for a map of the new lifts and an in depth look at the pressures on our favourite mountain.

It’s spring time!

spring lodge bbqSpring means relaxed, sunny skiing and barbeque dinners on the deck. The time is now to book your spring lodge weekend.

There’s still a couple of last minute spots in the 1/2 October van, and we’ll run the final van of the season on 15/16 October. Email me on to get your seat. Cost to members is all inclusive $160 for transport, accommodation and food – easy!

Inter club

Looks alright to me!

Alas, the inter-club sports weekend was cancelled due to very inclement weather. We were the hosts this year, but I’m told that the intrepid team who headed up there to run the weekend and represent the club in the competition still had a good time and managed to get a little bit of skiing at Turoa (Whakapapa was a bit of a wash out!). Thanks to Simon Lillico for all the hard work you put in to organising the weekend.

Looking ahead

The lodge subcommittee are already looking forward to work to do over summer and how we can make staying at the lodge in 2017 even better. We’re meeting shortly to discuss everything from improving the heating to reconfiguring the bunkrooms.

If you ran the lodge, what would be the one most important thing you’d change? Let us know in the comments, or email me at .

Have fun on the snow!

  1. Exciting news for skiers Mike. A certain someone has already been sounding me out about my feelings on the purchase of a life pass! Thanks for all the great updates on the winter season at the lodge.
