Track Talk – April 2014

Help with the cost of Training Courses

The committee recently agreed to help members with the cost of training for tramping activities. The club will pay 50% of course fees for a training course which up-skills members of the club. The club expects members to use the knowledge from the course in club activities. The Committee hopes these courses will assist members in having the skills to lead trips and participate more in the running of trips.

Below is a list of courses which are coming up which may be eligible for financial support:

  • MSC outdoor first aid course – 9th November – $100
  • MSC navigation – 3 evenings and 1 day in May – $95
  • MSC Avalanche Training – Christchurch – 8 and 9th November – $150
  • Avalanche training – Ruapheu – 14th and 15th August – Whakapapa ski field – $150
  • Avalanche training – Ruapheu – 21st and 22nd August – Whakapapa ski field – $150

Please ensure that you have emailed the Chief Guide and have agreement for the financial support before you pay. The budget does have a limit!

Other courses the club will support include those in river crossings and snow craft leadership. At the moment I am not aware of any such courses but am happy to publicise them if members suggest them to me. We will also consider any other courses suggested by members on a case by case basis.
