New members
After a very well attended New Members night (well done David H and Mike G in particular) we will see a lot of new faces both on the tramp and also on trips over the next month. As long / short time members of the club we all have a responsibility to make them welcome.
On trips this may involve patience with trip speed but will also include passing on the little things that make tramping so much easier. There is certainly no need for lectures but as you all sit round the billy / fire in the evening mentioning how well something works for you leaves it open for people to ask for more info. Helping them set up their fly when you all arrive at the road end on Friday is always appreciated. Getting them involved in the navigation is also a great way to pass on knowledge.
After the tramp please go up and make them welcome at our Wednesday night talks and make sure they get one of the chocolate biscuits. Maybe suggest other tramps which are coming up and might interest them.
If you are a new member and have read this far, well done. Welcome and I hope you have enjoyed the club so far. Allow the club it’s rules about trips, trust me once you have led a trip they start making much more sense. Enjoy the chocolate biscuits. If you enjoy tramping with us sign up to become a member after you have done two trips.
Trip Planning – Road ends
We have just kicked off the next round of trip scheduling with our trip planning night set for the 5th March. I have sent out an email to trip leaders but if you wish to suggest any road ends, trips or just areas of the country you would like to go to please email the chief guide.
It is important that everybody gets a say in the locations for the trip schedule. I will try and incorporate everybody’s ideas.
Please come along on the 5th March, don’t worry about dinner as Pizza is provided. It would be good to see lots of people there to help. Do not worry if you have not done any / much trip planning before. There will be plenty of experienced people to pair up with. It’s the only real way to learn how to work out good routes for tramping so come along and learn a new skill!
In the same vein of thought if you would like to become a trip leader please get in contact.
Transport payments
Just a reminder to all, that trip fares have to be paid 2.5 weeks in advance for South Island trips and 1.5 weeks for North Island trips. With the ferries having various difficulties at the moment we need to book and pay quite a bit in advance and need the money in the bank account before we do so.
