Mountain House Shelter

  • The original Mountain House Shelter was built by the Wellington Tramping and Mountaineering Club in 1952, to replace the Mountain House. The current shelter was also built by the club, in 2003.
  • The Shelter is easily accessible from Holdsworth road end, and is a popular stop on Gentle Annie Track or the Jumbo-Holsdworth circuit (see location).
  • WTMC has an historical maintenance agreement with DOC to regularly visit and maintain both the Mountain House Shelter and Maungahuka Hut, in the Tararuas. Individual WTMC members have been undertaking maintenance of the shelter. Club trips are sometimes organised to inspect and maintain the shelter.
  • For more information on the Mountain House Shelter, visit the TARHC website.

If you would like to help with maintenance of the shelter, please contact the Chief Guide.
