Hi (if anybody actually reads this forum anymore),
I’m down on the trip schedule to lead a week-long medium-grade trip into the Clarence Valley at the end of December. The official close-off date to sign up for the trip listed on the trip schedule is the 30th of November, but this is a busy time of year and if we want to make ferry bookings and arrange transport we need to do so urgently. So if you were planning on signing up for the trip, can you let me know as soon as possible. Don’t wait until the 30th of November because it may be too late! The plan is to do a loop going in over Blind Saddle and coming out over Palmer Saddle, with maybe some side-trips along the way. The Clarence Valley is a big and wild and beautiful area that the club doesn’t go to often. There’s not much bush – it’s mainly old retired pastoral lease country lying in between the big mountains of the Inland and Seaward Kaikoura ranges. A fair bit of the trip will be on four-wheel drive tracks, and other parts will be following gravel stream beds and boulder-hopping up and down streams. There may be some interesting navigation and scrub-bashing on the day we go over Palmer Saddle. It will be a mixture of huts and camping – there are some modern DOC huts and also some historic old huts and farmsteads.
The provisional dates are to go down on Saturday 27th December and return on Sunday 4th January. These dates could possibly be adjusted by a day or two if that would suit people better, but I need to know as soon as possible so we can finalise bookings.
Please let me know as soon as possible if you are interested.
Harry
