I will be putting a letter from Ruapehu Mountain Clubs, about the sewerage scheme, on the club notice board.

Total Cost to Commissioning is now estimated at $3.75 million, down from the previous estimate of $5.3 million. This equates to about $40,000 per club plus annual ongoing costs of $800 p.a. (or alternatively an additional one off cost of $4,500).

The reduction in cost is mainly due to DoC now proposing to enlarge the Whakapapa Treatment Plant and discharging the treated effluent near the golf course, instead of piping the effluent to a site outside the park boundarieds.

DoC has now formally decided that the scheme will proceed and they will be applying for resource consents this year. Construction is scheduled for the summer of 2002/03 for completion by September 2003.

A workshop is being held early next month (May) and hopefully more information will be available after that.

      Regards, Glynne
