Nominations for the Committee

We will be electing new Officers to serve on the Committee until the 2027 AGM.

Nominations received to date for Officers are:

RolePeople nominatedInformation they provided
PresidentDaniel Madley
(nominated by Ellen Irwin)
I’ve been a Club member for over seven years, met my wife through the Club and have been on the Committee for just over three years, with two years as Treasurer and as President for the last year. I am passionate about how the Club can improve and support Members to meet new people and have new adventures in a supportive environment. My mindset is that we need to build for the future, while also respecting and acknowledging the heritage of the Club. Outside of the Club I work at the Treasury, spend a lot of my time doing ultra-trail running, have been the Treasurer of Youthline Wellington for two years and have had (and continue to have) professional governance development through the Institute of Directors.
Vice PresidentAndrew Brown
(nominated by Sara Harrison)
I’ve been a Club member since 2023, and prior to that when I was at school and university.  I have been Vice President since 2024, and Acting President in 2024/25. When I joined the club I wanted to help out where I could in the governance space, and am a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors. I also chair a board in the intellectual disability space called Hohepa Wellington. In the outdoors, I am really keen on backcountry skiing so have a real interest in Ruapehu Lodge and Tongariro National Park more broadly. Operating the club efficiently and effectively is really important because it means the member experience is enhanced and the request on our volunteers’ time is minimised. I come from a place where I believe that successive cohorts of Committee members since 1947 have made the club what it is today. The Committee’s job today is to build on that work, in line with our core purpose of encouraging and enabling tramping, mountaineering, and skiing.
Vice PresidentSam Harrison
(nominated by Regan McGillicuddy)
As a backoffice bureaucrat with a love for the outdoors, I’ve explored over 400 huts, shared countless cups of tea, and earned my fair share of blisters. My passion for our wild places remains as strong as ever. As a sucker for punishment, after two years as Liaison Officer I am putting my hand up for the VP role. Our website is a key outreach tool for new members and source of information for our community. If elected my priority would be delivering a website overhaul and refresh. As a Club we need a website that is stable and easy to navigate.
TreasurerMichael Moore
(nominated by Daniel Madley)
I’ve been a WTMC Member since 2013 and was an active participant on Club trips for my first five years. While I haven’t participated in Club trips in recent years, I remain a very keen tramper, tramping frequently with friends, including a few epic tramps. I value the Club’s ethos and have continued to maintain my membership. Helping out as Treasurer is a way for me to contribute further, drawing upon my work experience in finance, and familiarity with financial systems. I am now retired, so have ample time for such a commitment. I have served on the Boards of Capital Football (my other passion), Multicultural Services Centre and on a school board of trustees, so am well aware of the workings and challenges of Incorporated Societies/ non-profits. I look forward to getting more involved with WTMC again and to reconnect with Members.
SecretaryEverard Halbert
(nominated by Daniel Madley)
Kia ora koutou. I’ve enjoyed the outdoors since I was young, first tramping with my father and later through my time in the Territorial Army. I joined the Club about 10 years ago and did the bushcraft course, then came back a couple of years ago for the first aid course. Last month I enjoyed a simple overnight in the Orongorongo Valley, camping outside in my tent at Pāua Hut. In my working life, I work at Community Law Wellington and Hutt Valley and the Centre for Justice Innovation. I have degrees in Law and Māori Studies, and have also served on the board of Restorative Justice International. I’d appreciate the opportunity to help out and give something back to the Club. Nā Everard.
Chief GuideJames Hancock
(nominated by Sam Harrison)
Kia ora koutou katoa. I am a keen explorer of our wonderful backcountry and am passionate about protecting it. I’m frequently out in the hills tramping, trail running, and hut-bagging, although recently I’ve been trying to get into climbing and mountaineering. My focus as Chief Guide would be to build up the Club’s base of trip leaders, expand our range of activities offered (trying to bring back packrafting, kayaking, and cycling trips), and to make trips easier to run for leaders. I’ve enjoyed the last few months in the Chief Guide role and would love another term to keep things going. Outside of the Club I’m a research economist which means I have the prerequisite love of spreadsheets to help organise Club trips and training courses!
Ruapehu Lodge Convenor
(proposed to be renamed Facilities Officer)
Miles Davison
(nominated by Megan Madley)
Kia ora, I have been a member of WT&MC since 1982, joining at the age of 16. Over the years I have
both tramped and skied with the club. 44 years on and I’m keener on being in NZ’s great
outdoors than ever. My role as Ruapehu Lodge Convenor, serving on the Committee, is my way of
serving the club that has provided so much for me over many years. Having spent countless
days and nights at the Lodge, and having attended many working parties over the years, I
feel well placed to serve the Club in this role. As the current Lodge Convenor, I would relish
the opportunity to carry on progressing the things we have implemented over the past year.
Thank you for your support.
Liaison Officer
(proposed to be renamed Social Officer)
Nicole Wood
(nominated by Sam Harrison)
The social aspect of WTMC is vitally important for attracting new Members, creating community and helping members feel confident to join trips and take up other opportunities that the club has to offer. When I joined the Club in February 2025, I sat on my membership for a number of months, a little bit intimidated and unsure of what trips or events to sign up for. It was the club’s Ruapehu Solstice Ball and Interclub Quiz that finally got me involved, and it wasn’t long after that I was going to Club nights and on Club trips, helping with social events and planning a successful run of WTMC fleeces late last year.
I am running for Liaison Officer this year as I want to build on the work of those previously in the role, and continue to create opportunities and foster connection within the Club, between Members, newcomers and veterans alike. I would like to continue with the regular and one-off social events and trips this year, and expand on Club merchandise offerings!

If you are interested in any Committee role, you can reach out to the President for a confidential discussion, or if you would prefer, you can contact the person currently in the role. Contact details are available here.

Having elections is a sign of a healthy Club, and all Committee positions are up for re-election.

To express interest in a role, your nominee (a current Club Member) needs to email [email protected]. You will then need to provide a short paragraph outlining your interest in the role (to be included on the website in the table above), and then complete a form to provide your written consent to being an Officer. Nominations close 24 hours before the start of the AGM (7pm 14 April 2026).

Voting procedures

Votes on resolutions will be undertaken in accordance with the Constitution, likely by a show of hands from those in person, and for those online, this may be done visually or via the chat. For the election of Committee members, votes will be taken in turn on each position and the person/s subject to the vote may be asked to leave the room.

Members unable to make it to the AGM may nominate a proxy if they wish to vote on their behalf. The proxy can be the meeting chair or any other Member eligible to vote. You can (but do not have to) specify to the proxy how you wish them to vote on all or some matters.

If you are unable to attend the AGM, either virtually or in-person and wish to vote by proxy, please email [email protected]. Proxy votes must be received no later than 24 hours before the start of the AGM (7pm 14 April 2026).
