Chief Guide vacancy (& temporary help needed)

Kia ora

Unfortunately our Chief Guide, Monique, has had to step down from her role on the Committee.

We are looking for a bit of help to keep things running in the coming months:

Help with the new Trip Schedule

  • The new schedule is due for publication in March. Jamie (Assistant Chief Guide) kindly offered to draft the new schedule, which is a big job to take on.
  • We would welcome some help to calculate trip fees and set up online sign up sheets. This is likely to occur in late Feb/ early March.
  • You can also help by putting forward trip suggestions (even if you don’t intend to lead them). Sounds simple but it makes a big difference.

Answering general queries and chief guide emails

  • If you are comfortable answering general queries about club trips (e.g. gear questions from newbies or how to pay trip fees) please get in touch and we can forward emails to you to provide responses. This could also involve supporting logistics for some trips if needed – e.g. confirming trip fees or club hut bookings etc.
  • If you are sufficiently experienced, this can sometimes include supporting trip leaders to make route/weather decisions and to select trip participants – however someone else can also pick up this type of queries if you are not comfortable doing so.

Appointing a new Chief Guide

  • Looking into the medium-long term we are looking for a trip leader to step into the Chief Guide role. If you are curious about it but aren’t ready to commit yet, please get in touch and we can provide more information about what the role entails.
  • Familiarity with club trips, a safety-conscious approach and some commonsense are important – you don’t necessarily have to be leading hardcore trips to be a good chief guide.
  • Nominations for WTMC roles can be made in the lead up to the AGM in April, and the Committee is also able to appoint someone new in the interim should there be interest.

In the meantime, if you have any queries relating to trips, please continue to email the Chief Guide and your email will be redirected to the relevant volunteer for response.

Whether you are able to support the club temporarily or into the medium-long term we’d love to hear from you. Every bit helps!
If you are interested, please get in touch with the President or anyone on the Committee.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Ngā mihi
Anne
