Starting 14 December 2016 – social nights, gear pick-up and trip sign-up will be at a new location
WTMC Wednesday club nights are moving to a new venue: the Sustainability Trust at 2 Forresters Lane (off Tory Street) starting 14 December 2016. Due to renovations at our current venue, we have to move temporarily.
Where is the new venue?
Sustainability Trust, 2 Forresters Lane
Forresters Lane is the alley around the corner from the Chow restaurant. Walk down the alley to the very back to find the Sustainability Trust. On street parking in metered spaces is free after 6pm. Try Tennyson Street or Tory Street.
What date do I go to the new venue?
14 December 2016, 7pm
We’ll be having a special Christmas celebration and final club night for the year at the new venue on 14 December.
We are closed for the holidays. Club rooms re-open on 11 January 2017 for gear pick-up and return. Social nights start up again the week after.
What about gear pick-up and return, and trip sign-ups?
Gear pick-up and return stays the same at the new venue – from 7-7:30pm. You must return all club gear by 14 December unless you have arranged with the gear custodian to use it on a Christmas trip. Gear storage at the new venue is limited – alpine gear will not be available.
Trip sign-up stays the same at the new venue from 7-7:30pm. The 14th December is your last chance to sign-up for January trips – and for leaders to pick up completed January trip sheets.
Stay up-to-date

If you want to know more…
The renovations of the Tararua Tramping Club Hall include strengthening, improving access to the building, improving the toilets and creating more meeting space in the basement. The work is scheduled to be completed in April 2017 and WTMC plans to return to the hall for our weekly social nights.
It’s been a challenge to find a temporary venue that suits all our needs, including gear storage. We are grateful to have found a venue in such a central location for a reasonable cost, although this cost is greater than what we currently pay. We’re excited to find our temporary home at the Sustainability Trust, who shares our passion for the environment. You can learn more about the Sustainability Trust on their website.
Is it possible to come on 14 December for the first time? Likely in the new year I would be keen to become involved and go out on trips with other likelminded people to progress learn and enjoy our backcountry…
Hi Simon, You’re more than welcome to come along on the 14th, but please be aware that it might not be a typical club night – it’s our last night before we have a break over christmas and the first night in our new replacement venue so it might be a little less smooth than normal. It’s a social night so there won’t be a talk or anything formal, just chatting and socializing. That said, I’m sure there will be plenty of people around who will be happy to talk to you and tell you about how the club works. You can also come along this week (7th) at the TTC Hall on Moncrief St, when there will be a talk from the guys at Cactus outdoors about some of their gear.
We’re always happy to chat to potential newbies!
