Over a Cuppa – June 2014

I’m really pleased to let you know that Nick Jennings is going to give a presentation at club this coming Wednesday the 2nd of July.  For those of you who don’t know Nick, he is one of our life members and has been part of the club for many a year.  Nick will be talking about tramping in the earlier days of the club and will pass on tips and hints from those days.  I believe Nick’s presentation will be a bit of a gem.  Do make sure you make it to the club rooms for this.

Rob Suisted is giving a presentation on the book: Molesworth Stories from New Zealand’s largest high-country station. The book was written by Harry Broad with photos by Rob. I think Molesworth holds a bit of a fascination for most of us so if that applies to you, mark this in your diary.  Rob will also have copies of the book available for purchase.

16 July has Tony G taking us for a meander through the amazing Tararua’s.  Yes, that term can be applied to them! And on 23 July Richard Young will show us his photos from a recent trip to Farewell Spit.whio

July 30th we have Darren Peters and Lisa Whittle from DoC talking to us about Whio (Blue Duck) protection.

Moving into August on the 6th we have Neil Hickman, long time member of the Hutt Valley Tramping Club, sharing photos from his ascent of the 7 pitch, grade 20 crux, alpine climbing route, Lucky Strike. The route is located on Moir’s Mate in the Darran Mountains. This promises to not only be interesting and accompanied with music – but also great research for those thinking about a climbing Christmas trip to Fiordland.

As always, I’m on the lookout for folk to do presentations, be it in slide or digital form. There are evenings available from late August onwards so don’t be shy, drop me a line at .

See you in the club rooms!
