WTMC will be running Snowcraft again this year and a strictly limited numbers AIC, the latter is dependent on instructor availability. Publicity will kick off straight after Easter.

You do not have to get your alpine skills from us though.

We are very happy for you to get some skills and experience with the NZAC – the main thing is that people heading into alpine environments have appropriate alpine skills.

IT WOULD OF COURSE BE FANTASTIC IF YOU CONTINUE TO COME ON OUR TRIPS!

The Wellington Section of the NZ Alpine Club runs a comprehensive AIC.

The instructors are experienced and well supervised.

Detailed course notes are provided and post course trips are arranged to enable you to practice your new skills.

      I thoroughly recommend this course.

If you are interested I suggest you get in quick. Details are on the NZAC Website or you can email

The NZAC Wellington section is running 2 additional short courses this year which are well work checking out:

Mountain hazards and avalanche awareness (evening session at Turnbull Hse 25 may 6.30-9.30pm and a weekend at Ruapeh 2-4 July

Alpine Nav (3 evening sessions 27 April, 2 and 4 May)

The NZ Mountain Safety Council also runs alpine courses from beginners through to experienced so check out their website too.
