NEW WEBSITE TO HELP COMMUNITIES PARTICIPATE IN THE RMA

A new website has been launched to assist people with a concern for protecting the environment to participate in resource consents, plan reviews, Environment Court action, and other Resource Management Act processes.

The RMAlink site, http://www.rmalink.org.nz, is maintained by ECO, the Environment and Conservation Organisations of NZ Inc.

The site contains an extensive database of information sources about environmental management and the RMA. All the public processes of the RMA are clearly explained. There is a nationwide directory of environmental and community groups that facilitates networking, so that skills and experience can be shared. Other resources on the site help people to develop basic skills such as writing effective submissions, finding case law, and gaining access to funding and advice when they are taking action on an environmental issue.

The information database draws together ?grey literature? on the RMA from a wide range of sources, both printed and web-based. References and case law are brought together under topic headings so that information can be found quickly and easily.

The directory of environmental groups can be searched by issue. It enables people to network with others around New Zealand who have dealt with similar situations. Hopefully, as public awareness of the site grows, more groups will be listed in the directory.

Information on the website is also available as a printed publication, or as a CD.
