Take a walk on the wild side.

Join us on a walk around an inland island.

Masterton Tramping Club invite you and your fellow Tramping Club members to join us for a day at Pukaha/Mount Bruce on
      Sunday October 31st 2004

      Dear Tramping Club Member,

You have no doubt heard of the Mount Bruce Wildlife Centre, home to many of DOC?s threatened species programs.

In the last 3 years DOC, the National Wildlife Centre Trust and other parties have also been working on the establishment of an Inland Island at Mt. Bruce. The pest control work within Mt. Bruce currently costs about $100,000 a year, funded by DOC, and local charitable trusts.

The Wildlife Centre Trust have set up a second Trust to raise funds to help with these control costs. To set the Trust off on it?s initial target of $100,000 the Masterton and Tararua Districts are organizing a 12hour Telethon Extravaganza on November 6th.

We are not into doing ?silly things? so are organizing our own fund-raiser.

Our plan is to take Tramping Club members, from as many Clubs as possible, on a tour of the inland island. To see a wide range of native trees, to hopefully hear Kokako, Kaka, possibly Kiwi, and many other native birds, and also see the work being done to reduce pest numbers.

We invite members of your Club to join us on Sunday October 31st

The cost $5 per person starting the tour.

Plus $1 for every Kokako you hear.

      50c for a Kaka.

$5 if you see a Kiwi!

The possibilities for taking money off you are endless!

There will be four walks leaving from the National Wildlife Centre on the 31st.

There will be briefings in the Centre Carpark at 9am and 10am.

At 9.15am and 10.15am, a walk for fitter members, of 5-6 hours duration departs.

At 9.30am and 10.30am, a shorter walk of about 4 hours duration departs.

An experienced local DOC staff member will guide each trip, and Masterton Club members will help keep the group together, we would rather not loose anyone!

Tracks are likely to be muddy, slippery, many are not well formed (suitable for pest control access only). NO DOGS PLEASE.

You will need to be prepared for a day in the bush, food, drink, wet weather gear etc.
and bring plenty of MONEY for this unique project.

If you are not able to join us on the day we will still gladly take your donations. Please send them to Masterton Tramping Club, (Attn Pukaha), PO Box 334, Masterton.

If you can come PLEASE contact me by the Wednesday night 27th with expected numbers.
