More trivia for the armchair tramper…

The WRC has some cool data on their website of weather/river measurements from around the Wellington region including the Tararuas. (Carkeek, Angle Knob, Bull Mound etc)

The image below is a plot of the windspeed at Angle Knob. It has been relatively calm. Over the last 12mth period quite a few gusts exceeded 200km/hr.

Now that makes a good quote for a Wellington club:

Specially if it is taken slightly (only slightly) out of context.
