  Tutawai hut squashed by falling tree and therefore not a great option for those seeking shelter at present!

  Where did you hear this? I can’t see it listed on the Wairarapa DoC alerts at http://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/plan-and-prepare/alerts/wairarapa/ Wellington/Kapiti DoC alerts at http://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/plan-and-prepare/alerts/wellington-kapiti/
  
  Maybe they just haven’t updated the pages properly yet.

  Got an email from DoC and yes don’t think they have updated their alerts since 27 June. Oh and I can’t spell either it is Tutuwai Hut.
