The Transmission Gully project has kicked into full steam, and that means that the western corner of Belmont Regional Park has been cut off by the construction zone.

So, you can’t walk from Cannons Creek to the park proper anymore.

Takapu Road road-end has been moved south, and still connects to Takapu Ridge track up to the main Belmont ridgeline, as well as (in theory) a rerouted Cannons Head track.

But, the rerouted Cannons Head track on this map only exists on paper – THERE IS NO TRACK OR MARKERS ON THE GROUND YET. You’re crossing open farmland though, so probably not much of a drama to navigate back to Takapu Road following that line on the map.

Here are some nice perspective views of the new tracks from the new mapboards at 3 road-ends.

      There is a new map on GW’s website – http://www.gw.govt.nz/belmont/ .
