      BioWorks Possum Control Operations

      As part of the Animal Health Board?s Tb vector control program the Greater Wellington Regional Council?s BioWorks Unit is scheduled to carry out control operations in the following areas prior to 30 June 2005.

      Holdsworth – Carterton
      This operation is approximately 3414 hectares it runs north of the Waiohine River along Tararua Forest Park boundary to the Enaki Stream in the north and then borders Hoeke, Dalefield, Kaipaitangata, Joseph?s, Jervois and Waiohine Gorge roads. The control poison methods include 1080 (hand broadcast and in bait stations), Feratox (Cyanide), Brodifacoum (bait stations) and Trapping.

      Mt Bruce ? Waipoua
      This operation is approximately 3615 hectares it runs along the northern side of the Upper Waingawa River, then north along the Tararua Forest Park boundary to the Mikimiki Road then runs south over land to the Falloon Settlement Road back to the Upper Waingawa River. The control poison methods include 1080 (hand broadcast and in bait stations), Feratox (Cyanide), Brodifacoum (bait stations) and Trapping.

      Kahutara – Pirinoa
      This operation is approximately 5365 hectares it runs East-Southeast of the Martinborough, Lake Ferry Road to the Paharakeke stream then up to the Haurangi State Forest Park and then borders the Park back to the Dry River Road. The control methods include 1080 (hand broadcast and in bait stations), Feratox (Cyanide), Brodifacoum (bait stations) and Trapping.

      What proportion of animals are eradicated by trapping? or other non-poison methods?
