      Important notice to visitors

      Rimutaka Forest Park
      Catchpool and Orongorongo Valleys
      Flood Damage Update

Significant flood damage during 30th and 31st March 2005 has affected visitor facilities and access in the Catchpool and Orongorongo Valleys.

? Road access to the main Catchpool Valley has been restored, toilets are operating, and the campground is open for use, but in much smaller size.
? The start of the Orongorongo Track is still closed, please use the Catchpool Loop Walk instead and follow the signs.
? Big Bend Track is open from Turere bridge up to Haurangi; however Haurangi to Whakanui is still closed, trampers need to use the riverbed instead.
? Due to track damage and the loss of bridges, this access is only suitable to fit and able trampers and will become impassable in times of heavy rain, so caution must be exercised.
? The course of the Orongorongo River has changed, and locations for crossings need to be carefully chosen.
? All five DOC booked huts are open for use.

For your safety, every effort has been made to ensure this information is correct. However, you should always seek more information before you begin your trip and be prepared to change your trip according to conditions.
