All washed up – What’s your beachcombing story?

New Zealand’s huge coastline acts like a net, with many odd things
washed up from the surrounding oceans. Te Ara: the Encyclopedia
of New Zealand is asking people for stories about things they have
found washed up on the beaches of New Zealand. It is hoped that a
selection of contributions will be included in Encyclopedia entries on
the beach and coastal environment. Stories can be up to 500 words
long, with a picture if possible, and need to reach the Encyclopedia
by 30 April.

Although there will undoubtedly be a range of weird and interesting
objects, the Encyclopedia is keen to include stories about finds that
have scientific significance.

Last year the Encyclopedia called for contributions on the topic “The
voyage out to New Zealand”. You can see a selection of these at
