Hi,
Has anyone been along Oriwa Ridge lately?
I was wondering what the travel is like?
I am intending to traverse the length of the ridge from Waiopehu to Y2YY forks in a couple of Saturdays time. I was wondering whether to go up to Waiopehu Hut on Friday night or just camp at the bottom of the track just inside the park.
It looks like the navigation could be a little tricky especially getting off at the far end and I would like to give myself plenty of time as I don’t want to be doing this in the dark. Hence I am thinking I will go up to the hut and get away early. I am assuming that there is not much in the way of a route and that there could be lots of windfall etc.
If you have been there and have any advise I would welcome it.

I did it about 4 years ago – Its not difficult travel – the trees are all nice and big. No major windfalls – piece of piss – if you go to the hut it will be a total breeze if not then wed better take your navigation hat.
