RANZ has an on-going NZ falcon survey underway. We saw a falcon on a day trip recently and I just put the record in on-line. It took a few minutes. The only thing you need is a GPS, NZMS 260 map position or a detailed postition description. You should know where you are if you are out tramping anyway so not much bother there!
Web site is http://www.ranz.org.nz for the on-line form and some pictures (in case you don’t know what birds you are looking for).
Raptors move about a lot, so community involvement for this is very helpful. Information about raptors has implications for other environment issues. Continual studies provide the best picture of changing circumstances.
