Hi Folks,

I’m after some advice regarding scanners that are capable of scanning colour slides (transparencies). I’m currently shopping around for a suitable scanner, and have done a bit of research on the Internet, but would like to hear from anyone who has actually purchased and used such a scanner. In particular I would like to hear about makes/models that you would recommend, and those to avoid.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The club owns a slide scanner, I don’t know its current whereabouts, last time I tried to use it I couldn’t get it to work. It was a cheap model, purchased for preparing low res images for the web site. I wouldn’t recommend it for higher res scans. Most people regard the Nikon models as best but they are expensive. Some of these have an auto feed so you can load a pile and go away while they do the scan.

I’ve a Epson 4870 scanner for sale, it scans slides, prints, negatives, you can read the review below or just do a google search. Let me know if you are interested. I don’t use it much as I’m using digital now days.

I have heard the new Epson V700 is a good flatbed scanner – new out from Epson at $1000. It seems to rival some of the dedicated film scanners – and can be used for scanning documents as well. The Epson 4870, an older model, seems to get good reviews and costs a lot less.

Hi Ray,

I’ve used Wellington Photographics in the past. They were pretty good- works out at about $1.50 for a 35mm slide if you have more than 20.
