from the Greater Wellington Regional Council

The Greater Wellington Regional Council will be conducting a possum control operation, in the WainuiomatalOrongorongo water catchments. Sodium monofluroacetate (1080) pellets will be applied between July and September 2005, when a period of fine weather occurs. A helicopter will be used to apply the poison. During and following the application, the water intake will be shut off for a period of time.

The purpose of this letter is to inform you that if you have any tramping trips planned for the Rimutuka Forest Park specifically the Whakanui track, Papatahi crossing track, during these months, you can still continue with your trip, as these tracks will not be closed. Signs will be installed at entrance points to the treated area, warning what precautions to take. Our staff will check these ridge tracks for pellets, following the operation.

Please contact me if you require further information.
