For armchair fans of this sport. the world champ event starting this weekend on the west coast has a few club connections. Jo Holden is playing camp mum (cook and logistics) to Team Kathmandu which has a strong Wellington flavour. A few of you may also remember a very fit young chap Rhys Burns from a few years back, who is a team member in the Powered by Velvet.org.nz. Maybe their sponsior will help them stay up during the event! Of course Kristina Anglem (nee Strode-Penny) is also racing in Team Balance Vector in her last big race before focusing on kayak training for the Beijing Olympics.

I also missed that Kristina’s brother Karl Strode-Penny is also competing (in Montrail team), currently chasing his sister’s team from 3rd place on the 1st mtb section. Go the Strodes!
