      Hi all,

As per my previous forum post, I’ve decided to go ahead with plans to solo tappy in the next 1-2 months. I’d like to find a time where I can get experience in snowy conditions without being too swamped.

Is there generally snow on the summit by late April?

I would refer you to Harry’s excellent response on your first post.

Based on the information you provided, it doesn’t seem like it would be safe for you to attempt Tapuae-o-Uenuku, especially solo. There are critical technical and avalanche awareness skills required to complete this backcountry climb. Mistakes in the alpine environment can have high consequences (read: serious injury or death).
I would suggest gaining experience by joining a Club (WTMC or another one), learning from others and practicing your trip planning and technical alpine skills on straightforward climbs (eg. Ruapehu) before attempting this one.

You’re of course free to do what you please in your own time but I’m closing this topic as I don’t think this is an endeavour the Club should encourage.

      Cheers
      Anne
